If You've Got A Dream, Chase It

If you got a chance, take it, take it while you got a chance

If you got a dream, chase it, 'cause a dream won't chase you back

Listening to the radio, this song came on (Til You Can’t by Cody Johnson) and it put a big ol’ smile on my face.  Not only because I’m a big country music fan, but because it made me think about this book and my journey as an author so far. 

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to read.  My first big chapter book was my grandma’s copy of Little House on the Prairie which she gifted to me one visit.  I read that book nonstop, then the next, and the next and that's what I credit with my love of historical fiction. 

Of course, with reading comes writing!  I wrote all sorts of little books as a kid, even started a chapter book in middle school!  (We’ll see if that one ever resurrects itself lol). Then I became a teacher and a mom and developed a strong love for a solid picture book. I learned the importance of rhythm and how pictures tell the story just as much as the words.  

I started with words, perfecting them until I was (mostly) happy with what I’ve got, then added in some beautiful illustrations thanks to an amazing illustrator.  Now, I wait patiently for those illustrations to be finished.  I recently got proofs of a few more illustrations and I printed them to scale, in full color.  It was such an amazing feeling to see my book come to life, even if it was a just crappy homemade print job!  I am SO excited to see this dream soar!
